Last week, I promised to discuss actively listening to ourselves. I did some research to guide my quest. So far, I found little information, but with a little tweaking we can apply the practice to ourselves.

As of now, what I know is we can use some active listening techniques to listen to ourselves. It starts with curiosity. Be curious about yourself. Find a quiet place to decompress. Remove all distractions. Do breathing or sensory-in-nature exercises to clear your mind. Then, become fully present to listen to yourself.

Be patient. Give yourself time to let your thoughts flow. Do not edit them. Acknowledge each one of them without judgment. Give yourself grace and be a safe space for you.

Start to ask yourself open-ended questions. Answer them freely and without fear. Do not rush yourself. Be aware of your body language and how you feel. Continue to breathe.

With every honest answer, experience the release that accompanies actively listening to yourself. Write them in a journal or record your answers. Be in the moment as you embrace your truth. Then, reflect upon it.

Practice these active listening techniques to listen to yourself. Please share if the practice was helpful. Your experience can be a tool for others to discover how to listen to themselves.
